The Clyde’s 10k 2012

clydes10k_BGR

The Clyde’s 10K is one of my favorite races as it is my home town race and there is lots of food but more importantly BEER at the end. MY KIND OF RACE.

This year I ran with a bunch of ladies from Black Girls Run and I even hosted a little pre-race carb loading event at my house and we had a most wonderful time and the food – FABULOUS. I made a lasagna & bruschetta, one of the ladies (pardon my forgetting your name) brought curry chicken which The FireMarshall devoured, red velvet cookies, some decadent cake bars, wine-water-wine-water and more. What a great time swapping stories & tips.

THAT was the way to pre-race.

Race day was not really a race day for me. According to my torturer, I mean Coach, this was just my regularly scheduled long run, minus some miles. I was supposed to just run it and try and keep my HR in Zone 2. I believe the objective through all this training is to condition my body to operate efficiently in Zone 2-3 for long periods of time so that I have the endurance to Swim-Bike-Run for hours and not wipe myself out. Thus, I started easy and decided to practice my chi-running techniques.

Whenever I started to feel winded, I slowed down to get my heart rate back under control. I felt pretty good the entire course. Hills – still the bane of my existence. Still need lots of work on them, but for the most part, I chopped those hills up. The FireMarshall came out to take pictures. SIGH. Most of the pics were of the Where’s Waldo type. I guess he couldn’t figure out how to use the great big lens on the front.

I didn’t beat my time from 2010 (and I wasn’t running to do that either), but I did move up higher from the bottom of the heap. I’m moving on up!

2009     1291/1357 (66 from bottom) 1:15:58.45

2010     1210/1292 (82 from bottom) 1:14:03.95

2012     1674/1798 (124 from bottom) 1:17:23.83

And while I certainly didn’t come close to placing in my age group, I was way up from the bottom in that category too! GO ME! I came across the finish line victorious and ready for some beer.

GTFOOHWTBS–The Killing of Trayvon Martin

no-bullshit-300x300

Just stop. Stop with all the bullshyt.

Those of you that think if Trayvon had just stopped and answered Zimmerman’s questions and confrontation…

GTFOOHWTBS.

So, am I now supposed to teach my children (my 20 year old son) that if a STRANGER is following you, stalking you and then confronts you…A STRANGER THAT IS NOT EVEN IN A POLICE UNIFORM…that they are just supposed to stand there and let said STRANGER do, say, touch, harass them with all the deference, respect & yes, sir’s that they can muster as if this was the 1950’s? ARE YOU FUGGING SERIOUS??? So, if a stranger is following me; harassing me, I’m not supposed to run? What if that STRANGER turned out to be a serial killer or rapist?  Wouldn’t you be calling me fugging stupid for stopping to talk to with a STRANGER?

GTFOOHWTBS.

What about MY RIGHT – what about Trayvon’s RIGHT - to stand our ground? Oh…Okay. The one with the gun is always gonna win that one, huh? What if Trayvon did fight back – against the pursuit and confrontation of a STRANGER!!!??? He didn’t have the right to stand his ground, the right to self-defense against that idiot, Zimmerman? Of course not. Like I said, the gun wins.

GTFOOHWTBS.

I simply can’t wrap my mind around the idea that Zimmerman, who had almost 100lbs on Trayvon, felt that his life was in imminent danger from a kid with a bag of skittles and a can a tea to fight with. SELF DEFENSE MY ASS. There is NOTHING you can tell me, nothing you can say that will convince me that Zimmerman was the victim here. Zimmerman was the one that called 911. Zimmerman was the one that followed that kid despite being told not to. It was Zimmerman that got out of his car and confronted Trayvon, once again, despite being told not too. Who was the aggressor here? Zimmerman started it and he finished it…and now his little vigilante, racial profiling, stereotyping, over zealous azz is still free to roam the street.

GTFOOHWTBS.

…and you know as well as I do, that had Trayvon had a license to carry a concealed weapon, stood his ground when Zimmerman confronted him and was the first one to get off a shot, that Trayvon would have been hauled off to jail while they “investigated” his claim of self defense. And I’m sure the outrage would have been just as loud to convict him for shooting Zimmerman instead of backing off. You know it, I know it. I willing to say it to your face. Makes you uncomfortable. Too bad. The truth hurts.

As for Geraldo Rivera’s assertions that if Trayvon has not been wearing a hoodie, this probably wouldn’t have happened like it did…

GTFOOHWTBS.

How about that for stereotyping and racial profiling. That is just about the same thing as saying that if women didn’t wear the pencil skirt then they wouldn’t get raped. Really? Geraldo – SHAME ON YOU! That was just dumb, asinine logic.

GTFOOHWTBS.

As for those of you that think that we all should just shut up about this since there is so much other similar tragedies in the the world…NO. I won’t. Don’t take issue with me for staying on top of this injustice, talking about it and calling it for what it is – MURDER, plain and simple. Do I care about the other injustices in the world?  YES. I’m sick of it all. Take up the lack of coverage for many of the other social injustices with the media. Those that scream the loudest seem to get the attention…watch the power of any special interest group. That Stand Your Ground Law is some bullshit, plain & simple. Where is ya’ll girl, Nancy Grace? Mmmm Hmmmm.

GTFOOHWTBS.

You know, if enough good people just keep silent, refuse to throw a flag on the play or call BULLSHIT when they see it…then well evil, injustice will win every single time.

Unbelieveable in the 21st Centrury

I don't need to rewrite what my husband sent to me while I am away at a training conference...You have got to read EVERYTHING in its entirety and make up your own mind. PLEASE SIGN THE PETITION....http://www.PetitionOnline.com/aZ51CqmR/
When are we (those of us living in the lap of suburbia) going to get uncomfortable and take a stand. "They" (ignoranat foke) can NOT get away with anything they want to without consequence...we must make sure that it doesn't happen......

Family,

I do not often send out things like this. But this story has caused me to say something and let my network know what has happened to six young teenagers in Jena, Louisiana. Read the facts for yourself. The injustice is in the manner is which the Black boys were treated and manner in which their White classmates and peers were treated. STILL A LOT OF WORK TO DO. I first heard about it yesterday on the Michael Baisden radio show on WHUR. This could have easily happened to my son Jordan. It is time that our generation begins to fight for our children. This has to stop for the sake of the next generation (Cara, Tyler (Derek and Linda), Greg Jr, and any kids).

I have embedded the story in this email. I also placed a link to sign an online petition , so that the United States Justice Department can investigate if the Civil Rights of these young men have been violated. The link is at the end of the email. We can make a difference if the community acts. These boys have to be saved. Please take the time to sign the petition to the Justice Department investigate.

Thanks

Help Support the Jena Six

This site was set up to provide news on the plight of the Jena Six and information on how to support their cause.

A timeline leading up to the Jena 6

In the front yard at a high school in Jena, Louisiana, with a total population of 4,000, there sits a tree. This is "the white tree", where only white students sit during breaks. In September of 2006, a black student asked 'permission' from the school administration, if he could sit under the tree. They said he could sit anywhere. The very next day, three nooses, in the schools colors, hung from "the white tree".Three white students were identified as being responsible and the principle recommended they be expelled from school. However, the white superintendent said, "Adolescents play pranks," the superintendent told the Chicago Tribune, "I don't think it was a threat against anybody," and gave them a three day suspension instead.

A few days later, the entire black student body protested the no-nothing 'punishment' and sat under "the white tree". That day the white District Attorney came to Jena High School for an impromptu assembly, with back-up law enforcement. It has been reported that the DA threatened the silent black students who were sitting under the tree, saying if the did not stop making a fuss about the "innocent prank...I can be your best friend or your worst enemy. I can take away your lives with a stroke of my pen." The school was then put on lockdown for the remaining week.

Thursday night, November 30th, 2006, a fire burned down the main academic building of Jena High School. This incident is still unresolved.

Friday night, December 1st, a black student was beaten by a group of white students at a "white party". Saturday, December 2nd, at the Gotta Go convenience store, the black student who was beaten up the night before, along with his friends, ran into one of the white students who beat him. A confrontation broke out and the white student went to his vehicle to get his shotgun. The black students wrestled the shotgun away from him and brought it to the police department and told them of the incident. The black students were arrested for stealing the gun. The white student was not charged.

Monday, December 4th, 2006, a white student, Justin Barker, was attacked at school by a group of black students for taunting them with racial slurs and verbally supporting the nooses that were hung on "the white tree" and also supporting the white students who beat up the black student at the party. He was treated at a hospital and released the same day, attending a social function that evening. Six black students were arrested for beating Barker, and charged with attempted second-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder. These charges hold a possible sentence of twenty to one hundred years in prison. They were all immediately expelled from school.

17-year-old Robert Bailey Junior -bail was set at $138,000
17-year-old Theo Shaw - bail was set at $130,000
18-year-old Carwin Jones - bail was set at $100,000
17-year-old Bryant Purvis - bail was set at $70,000
16 year old Mychal Bell - bail was set at $90,000 (a sophomore in high school, was charged as an adult.)

Mychal Bell remained in jail from December 2006 until his trial because his family was unable to post the $90,000 bond. Theo Shaw has also remained in jail. Several of the other defendants remained in jail for months until their families could raise the money for bond.

In the local paper, the 'incident' was reported as fact and the white DA Reed Walters published a statement saying, "When you are convicted, I will seek the maximum penalty allowed by law.". . . .On July 31st, 2007, Mychal Bell will be sentenced. He is facing up to twenty-two years in prison. The remaining five students await their trial on charges of attempted second-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder.

They face up to 100 years in prison.

"The white student who was beaten at the convenience store was later arrested for bringing a hunting rifle loaded with 13 bullets onto a high school campus. He was released on $5000 bond. The white man who beat up the black youth at the off-campus party was arrested and charged with battery.

The white students who hung up the nooses in "the white tree" have never been charged.

When you get a chance read about the story on Michael Baisden’s
