Just Random–Thoughts Happen

got_thoughts

Happy New Year! A lot has happened in these first 10+ days of the new year at True Blessings. WHEW! I could probably write a post about each unique event but time has been limited. I’m going to just share some of the things that have popped into my head…Just Random Stuff :

  • I got a promotion at work and the 1st day was Jan 2nd. We had a year beginning meeting this week where I met everyone in my region and in my district team. SIGH
    • There definitely are NOT any diversity goals in my region since I was the only person of any color out of 53 people.
    • The was a goal for achieving the most khaki or bad blond highlights – it was reached.
    • The amount of information I’m having to learn is EXACTLY like drinking from a fire hose.
    • Toledo, OH for a training class in Feb? SERIOUSLY?
  • I went to an Vision Board Party last Saturday and it was a wonderful experience. visionboardI took it rather seriously and was amazed at how random pictures, phrases and items that I only picked because they struck a cord with me came together to create my 2013 Vision. What were some of my take always?
    • The ladies I shared this experience with were all awesome!
    • My vision is MY Vision for ME. Everybody had great, interesting things they wanted to achieve and that was great for them. My board was about me.
    • I can’t wait for the “gathering” at the end of this year to see how much of our Visions have manifested. I know they will.
  • I started the first of several perquisites I need to get accepted into a Physician Assistant/Masters in Public Health program. January 2nd was a very eventful day. Promotion & School.
    • I’m THAT old lady that sits in the front row of class with her hand dandy notebook, pen & highlighters – taking copious notes.
    • We spent the 1st hour of class with an icebreaker where you had to tell your name, why you’re in class and something unique. REALLY?
      • Major is communication, yet you mumble?
      • There is ALWAYS the perky kid in class that always has a story, raises their hand and says pick me!
      • Only interesting person in class is the girl who is a Junior in HS graduating early trying to find out what she wants to do with her life.
      • …then there is the DC cop majoring in nursing cause she hates being a cop.
    • So far, I have a 97.7% in the class. I be smart.
  • I can’t wait to ride my new bike. I brought her home from an awesome fitting on Monday. The plan is to take her out on Sunday. Now I just got to name him/her.

Trek

  • All those gun position meme’s people are posting…I find it amusing, and JUST DUMB, that so many people have such an absolute opinion/position defending the need to keep every single weapon on the planet, but NEVER have a position or solution on how to keep it all and yet make it harder for wacko’s to get them. I see.
  • God don’t like ugly. That mess, that snark, the negative that you do behind the scenes will eventually catch up to you. Do better, please.
  • I realizing that something(s) are going to have to give to keep family, work, school, tri-training going. TV is it. That’s what a DVR/TIVO is for.

  • I Dreamed a Dream…and they will come true.

RANDOM: No Regrets, Unforgiving, Fit & Phabulous

musingstxt

I recently read an article about the Top 5 regrets of the dying and 2 of them stood out to me based on some recent things that have happened and/or been said to me:

1. I wish I’d had the courage to live a life true to myself, not the life others expected of me. ~~ Well, that won’t be one of my regrets. I won’t wish I had lived true to myself. I am who I am and I am doing all most of the things I want to do with my life. I live this life out loud; large and bodacious and I try to drag as many friends/family along with me on this most awesome journey called life. the only people who I have bent/adjusted to/for are my children & husband, but even still – I CHOSE – and The TravelDiva has managed to stay True North.

Are you living life true to you?

2. I wish I’d had the courage to express my feelings. Ummm, DUH! I’ve always had “the courage” to say how I feel and to express myself. Maybe it’s more of a lacking a filter instead of courage, but I have managed to navigate the military, corporate career & entrepreneurship with enough of a common sense/decency filter to be pretty damn successful. What I have found; however, is that there will always be people who believe it is okay for them to say any damn thing they want any which way they want to you without so much as a by your leave and then get their panties in a bunch when you check them or you don’t allow them a pass. You mad…oh well.

Do you hold all of your feelings & thoughts inside? What’s that feel like, because I would suffocate.

No regrets.

I tried to extend an olive branch to a FB friend who ~ 2 YEARS AGO!! ~ internalized and made all about him something I wrote about on my blog regarding elite athlete snobbery. He promptly unfriended me and I hadn’t heard from him since until he commented on a mutual friends page. I sent a message holding my olive branch and flag of truce, hoping that time had soothed over this complete misunderstanding. NOPE. The door got slammed in my face. I was told that the way I hurt his feelings was “unforgivable” ~ PERIOD and that he was not going to reconcile ever…Like EVER.  WOW. Good thing I’m not dependent on man’s forgiveness to be absolved of my alleged sins. Glory to God. Funny thing though…since he hasn’t mastered privacy settings yet, I was able to see some one of his recent posts on forgiveness where he said he had learned a lot form being able to forgive.

side-eye-queen

Really, boo? I think you need to go over that lesson again.

Are you hanging on to a slight, a hurt, a hate? Are you unforgiving as if you NEVER EVER do/say anything that hurts or is wrong? You know the only person you are hurting is YOU right?

A complete stranger saw a picture of me running in a race. Her comment about someone she doesn’t know anything about was “Hmmm, I bet she comes in last a lot.” Wow! A friend of mine who heard the comment handled it superbly and the stranger didn’t speak to her for the rest of the day. My friend was so crushed – NOT! My thoughts…No dear, I have NEVER come in last in anything I have done, but I bet her narrow ass would or be laid out in the back of a rescue vehicle. SMDH. People need to stop it with projecting their issues, hang ups, insecurities and all those subjective notions of what beauty & fitness should looks like for evey one. STOP IT. STOP TSK TSK’ING EVERYBODY AROUND YOU AND WORRY ABOUT/FOCUS ON YOU! Seriously. Here’s what I know – I know who and what I am ~ made in God’s image. My issues are mine and yours are YOURS. Don’t mistake this Athena physique, red lipstick and a smile for weak & lazy. This Athena Goddess will rip your scrawny arm off with her bare hands, throw you out on the lawn to feed the zombies (or simply to feed those turkey vultures on my neighbors widow walk) and keep it moving. Thin does not necessarily equal fit/fast/beautiful. That ugliness that come of your mouth ~ all that snark & demeaning comments ~ make you look like the big fat pig you roll around with when you do that mess. TRUST ME. It’s ugly & you smell.

I hope you are not one of those people. Don’t be THAT person, mkay? Grow up.

Sick & Shut In Randoms

funny-pictures-your-cat-likes-laying-around-all-day

Apparently I caught some cooties from somewhere that decided to take up residence in my throat & lungs on Wednesday and it progressively got worse till I came home from a business dinner on Thursday night with no voice & collapsed in a heap across the bed.

I so appreciate the FireMarshall running out to the store at 10pm to get me some meds.

I don’t appreciate that he felt the need to take his time while he picked himself up some ice cream and various other snacks too.

Cough. Hack.

That one dose Zi.th.ro.max is the BUSINESS!!! Only problem…you can’t leave the house or go to far from the bathroom. 2grams of A.zyth.ro.mycin with clear your intestines out of EVERYTHING.

TMI?

Being ordered to take a day off from (to quote my friend) running, swimming, kicking & fighting everything, everywhere was AWESOME! I tried to go from the beginning of the internet to the end, but stuck with my goo.gle reader instead.

JustStop

I so wanted to just unfriend some people today…so entrenched in their rhetoric, bullshyt & soundbites that they are almost rabid, but if I did that, then that would be one less voice that challenges the crazy instead of co-signs it.

SIGH. Some people just make my head want to explode. Just..Just Stop.

I bought a dress to wear to an event this month…damn thing fit perfectly – EXCEPT…when I tried to get both girls inside it.

Seriously. Wall slide of depression and self loathing.

Then…I had to take my measurements for Coach Torture Lionheart and while I only lost 2 1/2 lbs, I did talk off a total of 4” all around, (1/2+” from calves, hips, waist, arms).

I’ll take it…and I’ll take that damn gown back too! HUMPH.

I didn’t get into the Warrior Dash this year…all the times were sold out for Saturday. Guess I’ll go ahead and register for the Philly Tri (Olympic or Sprint…that is the question).

Olympic…probably.

I want a runDisney medal…BAD. That’s some awesome race bling. Jan 2013…right MsPattey?

I love Pan.era Breads Tomato Soup. Delish!

I’m going to see Diana Ross and then run a half marathon next month. Gonna go see The Boss then BE the boss all in one weekend. Mad Excited about it.

What shall I “Cook with Love” tomorrow night for our friend & classmate? Hmmmm…

The cocktails are always the easy part.

My SwimP3 headphones (ones you can wear in the water) are EVERY.SINGLE.DAMN. THING. PERIOD. Nothing like swimming a mile to Adele & Tina Turner.

My meds are kicking in…sleepy time.

Anything happen random or made you go…hmmmm, lately?

Thursday Thoughts: Gleanings from TET 2011

ToughEconomicTimes2-642x366

It was very interesting to see how many people hoped & prayed for better times in the 1-2. More interesting were the people surprised by the fact that so many people had a TET (tough economic times) in 2011.

Yep. Had them. I felt no need to wallow in it and share the TET with the whole world. My family and Top Mafia have been bedrocks of support & encouragement and we are making it through.

Been there, done that, got a t-shirt for it.

What I will share are some of what I have learned and/or thought about along the way for this episode of Thursday Thoughts:

- That high horse I was riding; kept warm by a blanket of quick judgment, threw me off for a nice tumble.

- The fall was jolt and eye opener.

- The use LOTS of prayer with a large dose of exercise (how bout those 10 races in 2011) works wonders to alleviate stress, quell panic attacks & crying jags.

- Also…there is way better living through pharmaceutical intervention. Besides adult beverage intervention results in a VERY large ass, soooo…I highly recommend the pill form of intervention.

- Cleaning supplies from the Dollar Store clean just as well as those name brand ones in the grocery store – trust! You ought to try it…once you get over your snobbery, you’ll find some great deals on regular azz stuff. Compare & Win!

- You learn REAL quick like the difference between a NEED  & WANT; frivolous expense & basic necessity. QUICK.

- Those hard choices are hard & SUCK big time – at first – and then it gets easier – and then you realize you wasted a whole lot of money on shit stuff that just wasn’t necessary.

- I can go without a whole lot of stuff so that my kids can have whatever they need. Education & Learning Experiences are priority one. Nails, hairs, new stuff – can wait.

- GMa’s are THE BOMB! Pride is folly.

- Not everybody can help you financially, but they can help. Homework, Transportation, Babysitting, Cleaning, Cooking, an Airline Ticket (you know who you are)…and much more. Bartering WORKS. Get familiar.

- Just because you are temporarily broke doesn’t mean you need to look temporarily broke down. Shop that closet, use shit up, squeeze that tube till it screams, get creative, use YouTube university (I learned how to braid extensions into Cara’s hair – ALL BY MYSELF), DIY. I may be in the TET but I will LOOK GOOD while it it. HUMPH.

- I find it a gosh dang disgrace that when a person could use or NEEDS a tad bit of assistance they can’t/don’t qualify. See…those last 2 years of tax returns say you are “rich”. But right now…not so much. Too bad, so sad. That’s the group of people who are now losing their homes, filing bankruptcy – just losing EVERYTHING. SIGH. It takes 2 years of abject destitution and sitting on the waiting list to get “assistance”.

- Too little, too late.

- BTW…not everyone on unemployment & getting assistance is a lazy, shiftless, take advantage of the system, trifling ass, not good for nothing.

- Just Saying.

- A tip to those of you still out there looking for work – It’s easier to find a job when you have a job. GET ONE…any one…even if you are woefully underpaid. Do good at it and keep searching till the opportunity opens for you again. Seriously. It sucks big time out there. NETWORK!

- And YOU – the employer, scoffing and refusing to hiring someone that is/has been unemployed and will only hire someone who has a job – YOUR DUMB & AN AZZ.

- Being the wife (and business partner) of an ambitious, visionary entrepreneur will test the limits of any woman’s love & endurance. Especially when your husband starts a company during the worst economy since the Great Depression. I found out that I’m one of those women that has what it takes. I’m in it to win it. Instead of driving a wedge between us, it drove us closer and I became an asset instead of a hindrance & dream stealer. WE ROCK!

2012 is our year. The 2011 TET is over. I’m speaking it, and so it is.  The lessons I’ve learned along the way (and I’m sure there are more)…I’m keeping, for through adversity, we grow.

Do you have a lesson from TET that you care so share? Come one! Do Tell!

Training Torture Tidbits

Minnesotah

I spent that past 10 days in Minnesot-AH! at a training class for a new gig I took (taking it for the Kingdom – playing my position to ensure that Camelot is still lined in Gold & Silver). The only saving grace was The Mall of America where I spent the entire Saturday (9 hours) shopping with my new friend & playmate, Nat from Montana. I LURVE that girl. We hit it off famously. Go figure. Without here, there might have been a “goin’ postal” moment.

stupid

- I found it amazing that sales reps with so much experience and tenure were wigging out over taking a product certification exam…ESPECIALLY when the trainer gave us a study guide and was telling us exactly what was on the exam to review. o_O

- I so wanted to pass out my Xanax.

- Just cause you WERE formerly a District Manager does NOT make you the resident expert of EVERY SINGLE THING. Keywords: FORMERLY. You are just like the rest of us…and old dog put out to pasture given an opportunity to excel elsewhere.

- STOP TYRING TO BE TOP TRAINING REP! None of us really care nor are we competing for the title. Seriously.

- If you already know that question you are asking is off label, not indicated or out of compliance…THEN DON’T FUGGING ASK THE TRAINER THE DAG ON QUESTION. She can’t answer it. You are wasting time.

- Also, stop beating that dead horse to death.

- Perhaps I will bring some Xanax down and spike the coffee. The hysteria is killing me.

- Looking over the top of my glasses with THAT look…brings me immense joy. I see why it has been so effective for The FireMarshall.

- I’m gonna need this woman who just had a baby; whose husband told her NOT to go back to work to stop all the whining and complaining and slow her roll. Go home.

- You insisted on taking this job against your husbands wishes so SUCK it up. I don’t want to hear anymore about your stress level, how much you miss your baby (I miss my grown children, dammit) or anything else when you were given the opportunity to stay at home.

- OH! You went back cause you didn’t want to “fall” behind in your skills. Sigh. Let this old lady tell you…you will regret NOT staying home with your kids if you financially can way more than you will ever regret falling behind your “corporate” peers in skills. Trust me.

- Wanna know how to tell when your skirt is too short – for professional/business duty ?…When your 40+ years old, you sit down and your thigh high hose shows to the entire room. Chile Please! Cottage Cheese don’t look chexy no matter HOW skinny you are. PERIOD.

- WORST TRAINER EVER!!! If you don’t know who to use all the features of the damn tablet or where shit is, what makes you think we will. FUBAR!

- By day 9, my “give a shyt factor” was at ZERO! I just didn’t give a damn.

- Passed the exam, razzle dazzled them with my presentation skills (as I knew I would – it just ain’t that hard) and went to Off Fifth Saks and shopped to get The FireMarshall new duds for our trip to The Breakers. That’s how much time I had to kill before we had to be back for grins, giggles & goodbyes.

- I practically knocked people out of the way and did the OJ Simpson to the bus and in the airport to get da hell outta there.

There is NO PLACE like HOME!

Randoms of a Traveling Lacrosse Mom

ITpin

I got up at the crack of dawn on Friday to catch a 6am flight to Ft Wayne, IN to attend Parents Weekend at Indiana Tech and get me some WARRIOR LACROSSE in. I was worried about the whole trip as Prince Jordan has not had much luck in traveling to & fro from school in the past couple of months.

The trip was uneventful. I even got the opportunity to “volunteer” to give up my seat and catch the next flight out of Detroit to Ft.Wayne. Since I didn’t have to be there until 7pm for the game, I volunteered and scored a $400 travel voucher on Delta.

Our Memorial Day vacation is going to be that much better when our flights (The FireMarshall has a free ticket as well from another trip) are taken care of. And NO, I don’t have a problem traveling on a different airline than the FM. We will arrive at the same destination and have a rip roaring time.

Do I take this Warrior Lacrosse Mom business seriously? YEP. I’ve got my colors on, my bling on & even my nails are painted orange. I also go a tad overboard with capturing pictures of my Warriors.

cannonlens

I did some research on great sport telephoto lenses and came up with the Canon EF 400 mm/ F2.8 L IS. (“The Canon EF 400mm f/2.8 L IS USM Lens is the ultimate Canon professional field/track sports lens.”) Of course I went back to www.borrowlenses.com to rent the lens for the weekend. I rented from them before, but this time I was asked to verify my identity by sending over various scanned copies of my id & the CC I used to prove the it was IN FACT me that ordered it. Then I got an email asking all kinds of questions (was I a professional photographer, did I have a website, business EIN – if so, do I have any references, etc). I was taken aback a bit…at first…and then I went to look at how much this sucker costs.

$7-$8000 DOLLARS. GTFOOH. No wonder they wanted me to verify and put up a kid as collateral. I finally satisfied all their questions and they sent me the lens. It arrived in a friggin suitcase.

I got skerred. DA HELL DID I ORDER?

I am lugging all my camera equipment around in a piece of luggage on wheels.

NO! I am not from ESPN. Warrior Fans – stop asking me – I’m just an overzealous Warrior Lax Mom/Fan.

   cameramom   cannonlens2

Let me tell you what I’ve learned after the first night game:

  • I still suck at night photo’s even under lights & with a $8k SUPER LENS
  • I have to take LOTS (like a gazillion) to get some great shots, especially at night. I SUCK.
  • That lens is HEAVY even using on a monopod. Also, you just do jump up and move locations. Did I say that sucker is HEAVY!
  • Have back up batteries. For some reason this lens sucked the life out of two batteries in two hours.
  • Use that hood. They sent it to me for a reason…I think.

IMG_2952IMG_3003

No, I am not a professional photographer. STOP ASKING. Why did I rent it? CAUSE I DO WHAT DA HELL I WANT TO DO. Yeah, sure. I’ll take your picture…IF YOU GO STAND ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE FIELD.

I am having a wonderful time hanging with some of the other Warrior Lacrosse Mom’s. They now know that I only need a nudge to act out a complete LAX COUGAR MOM fool. Diana – yeah, you! And as for “Doris Day” – once she took off that apron, it was on & poppin. I’m still working on a comeback after she threw me under the bus last night over the “bathroom” incident.

IMG_2930

I haven’t laughed so hard and cut up so much with these ladies, their husbands & our Warrior Lax Men in ages. I think I punctured my spleen.

Another game is up late this afternoon with a SLAMMIN’ TAILGATE! I’m Girding My Loins for when the INDIANA TECH WARRIOR LACROSSE TEAM releases THE CRACKEN!

Outside my Sunroom

IMG_2894

I stepped outside my sunroom last night, looked up and this was the view. Made me feel a little melancholy, but perhaps it was because I was very tired (been training hard this week). It was also a little surreal & beautiful.

I wish I had captured the moon better with this shot. Had me looking up photography classes online, and then I fell asleep with computer on my lap. That reminds me…*look up lens to rent for Parents Weekend*.

Remember it is FLUFFY FRIDAY!!!! Make it a great one!

Mission Michigan–Road Trip Random’s

roadtrip

The FireMarshall, Princess Cara and I are on the road RIGHT NOW enroute to Grand Rapids, MI to watch Indiana Tech LAX and, more importantly, pick up Prince Jordan & Sir Tony for a little Spring Break Fling in DC. Yeah, they called on afternoon and snookered the Queen into this whole adventure.

Last night, around 11:30pm, The FireMarshall asked me to check the weather as we packed to see if we needed to bring some artic gear to watch the game in. I flipped on the Weather Channel and – SHOCK & AWE! A frigging snow storm dead smack in the middle of our route (10 – 12 in of snow in Cleveland). Ummm. Yeah. I went to the cloud (no, really, I just opened two windows on my ‘puter) between MapQ.ues.t & weather dot com we tried to make a command decision on what to do:

  • Leave later waiting for storm to pass
  • Leave now – didn’t make much difference
  • Plot a different route – that was the ticket (or so we hope)

Instead of going the most direct route through Pittsburg to Cleveland up to Grand Rapids, we are staying a little south (on I70) to Columbus, hook up to Ft Wayne, IN then up to Grand Rapids. Keeps us south of the storm and only adds about 1 hour to the already brutal 10/11hour travel time.

VIVA EL INFORME RICO! or at least noaa.org

We are on the road now (in West Virginia to be exact) and while cloudy we have clear skies. Pray for travel mercies. Since there is always some grins, giggles & shenanigans on every adventure we embark on, I’ll be back from time to time to update you with…

ROAD TRIP RANDOM’S

So, obviously we have taken so many road trips in the Party Van that the drivers seat is a tad worn down. Why was The FireMarshall’s solution to the problem to sit on Princess Cara’s Bumble Bee Pillow Pet? You don’t even WANT to know where the face of the bee is. SMH.

If Princess Cara as ONE MORE DAMN TIME if we are almost there, I'm going to throw that American Doll out the dag on window! Kill me friggin NOW! Uggaaahhh. So, she realizes that we are at our wits end and asks for one of her blow pops. Sure, we give it to her. SHUT THE EFF UP!

We got played.

What possessed me to teach Princess Cara how to get the truck drivers to blow their horns. DUMB AZZ.

Guess the whole go an hour out of your way idea is paying off. Except for a little bit of flurries in the mountains of PA, we got zilch since we hit OH & still nothing outside of Ann Arbor, MI.

I LOVE having a mobile hotspot on road trips. I'm roaming all over deeze here innanets even registering for the ZOOMA Annapolis 10K. I refuse to watch video - OVER & OVER of the devastation in Japan. I'll just pray instead. I don't need to watch it a gazzillion times to know that it is awful.

Princess Cara is a great Road Dawg. She's fun (except when she asks if we are there yet).

Da Hell is that thing?

You Think Maybe…

Yes_no-350-x-320

You think maybe I don’t understand why so many women give a rats azz that Steve Harvey has written 2 books and is considered a “Relationship Expert”. If you are NOT in his target audience, if you don’t do have the dumb azz shyt that he is ‘counseling’ about, if you don’t need help with figuring out why none of your baby daddies will marry you and such then why do you care? Don’t buy it, don’t read it, don’t support it.

You think maybe …don’t hate the playa, hate the game.

You think maybe we should spend more time pulling the thorn from our side, wiping the blemish from our eyes & dropping those rocks we are so eager to throw?

You think maybe instead we should pray for others more instead of raking them over the coals & issuing that express bus ticket to hell? Most of us already have our own pass without adding passengers.

You think maybe misery like company? I rather be by myself.

You think maybe I have a slight addiction to signing up for races. You think maybe the more insane, the better? I need to come off the fitness crack.

You think maybe I need to rename True Blessings Estate to the True Blessings Transitional Home. My sister has moved in. We rented out a room to a friend. I need to see about writing a grant.

You think maybe sometimes I’m really, really tired. Yet I know that to whom much is given, much is expected and that I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me.

You think maybe, just sometimes, I pray for a ‘duty, responsibility & accountability’ vacation?

You think maybe if it wasn’t for ya’ll checking up on me, holding me to my word with love, kindness and gentle nudges that I would have fallen totally off the wagon, let stress, life, & sickness keep me from being Phat & Fabulous. Thanks for the check in’s. I’ll be back with updates soon.

You think maybe that if I didn’t sign up for all of these races that I would have not only said FUGG the Eat Right Plan but FUGG the working out too? Let me tell ya…when you spend on average $50 for a running race to $100+ for a Triathlon, you think maybe you train for those things?

You think maybe The TravelDiva don’t waste no moolah?

You think maybe I am excited about the road trip to Atlanta Friday to see the season opener tournament for Indiana Tech’s LAX. The road trip with all of my girls is going to be a friggin HOOT!

You think maybe I’m still going to figure out how to fit into my WW points the Smothered, Covered, Chopped & so on hash browns from the Waffle House?

You think maybe you shouldn’t judge me?

Just in…You think maybe that kid that doused a cat in lighter fluid, thrown in a milk crate and set on fire is a future serial killer? Seriously, what is wrong with people?

You think maybe I HATE watching the news?

You think maybe with all that is going on, I am loving my life? Yeah, I do. The journey…it’s all about the journey.

So, my friends – you think maybe you got some random stuff going on with you? Spill it.

Thursday Thoughts

We had BIG DINNER tonight to honor The Prince, Heir to the Empire - Protector of the Realm & Princess Charlee going back/off to college tonight. Great times as we planned how to defeat the zombie apocalypse/Armageddon that is about to happen. I love & hate my kids at the same time.

I pick on Lady Joan because it is still hard for me to totally give over my son to the inevitable. I like her...and I hate her all the same.

I am currently "dating" vicariously through my BFF...and having the time of my life. Like I have any idea on how to date in the the 21st century...but talking with her everyday is pure joy. Well...I always talked to her everyday, but now...I LIVE for it. Between our workouts and her life...I can hang on...better than Xan.a.x.

My country BFF, that lives in the most spectacular Victorian Mansion that dreams are made of, sent me the most beautiful and awesome purse the other day. I opened the box and just stood there staring at it and tears started falling. I love her so...and KNOW I don't tell her enough or spend enough time with her. I love her. She is the ONLY person that actually WRITES letters. I'm going to sit down and write her back. It is so easy for me to just call her but NOPE...I'm writing her a letter tomorrow. I love her so. Thank you. That gift made my day...my month actually. It is beautiful.

I don't give a rats azz that they read the Constitution. SO. How bout you actually apply it...and not selectively. Do your damn job. Jeeze.

I really wanted a good friend to come to dinner tonight, but I knew it was a lot to ask and a long way to come so I let it go. I love her so, too.

It amazes me...and I realize how much of a blessing it is to have so many loverly friends.

I'm still finding it difficult to let go of The Prince. My daughters...not so much...my son...it's killing me.

Today is going to be a blank on the WW points tracker...I just couldn't keep up with how many glasses of sangria I had tonight. Oh well.

I have a phone interview (the second interview) tomorrow. I HATE phone interviews. I'm much better in person.

Is it just me...I LOVE to watch my husband get "dressed" (suit & tie). Just Chexy.

I'm really looking forward to the trip to Spain with the Queen Mum & Princess Erin (especially when the Queen Mum gets her knee fixed). The stories...Lawd hab murcey.

How was your day before FLUFFY!!!

1/3/11

Monday Musings & Other Random Thoughts

I don't make New Year Resolutions. I set goals and go about the business of achieving them...and that's that.

I was amused by the extensive natural hair twitter onslaught the other day...especially when one persons major life goals for 2011 centered around their hair. Really?

Prince Jordan, Heir to the Empire, Protector of the Realm goes back to college Saturday. I found out this holiday that I am no longer "running things" round these parts. Lady Joan has assumed the role and if I want the Prince to do something, I talk to her. Sigh.

The FireMarshall informed me that I need to get with the program...Daughter's come back like bad pennies...Son's leave. *Hangs head in resignation*

I'm trying NOT to be a helicopter mom with the Prince.

Princess Charlee is leaving us too this Saturday. She is off to study nursing at Salisbury University. I can't believe she's off already. Wow!

In related drama, her bio-dad managed to get her a hooptie at the 11th hour (after years of not doing a damn thing - I'm just saying). Yeah, the problem is WHO DA HELL IS PAYING FOR INSURANCE?!!! When I asked that of him, he was like..".well...umm...er - she only needs liability; I'm sure that won't cost much." Well, it ain't gonna be ours problem. You wanted a car, you have 3 pts on your license, you need to figure it out...I can't afford to carry you. Sorry.

The famous last words around True Blessings that always end in disaster are "I got this." They never do.

So, one of my goals for this year is to lose the 20lbs I've put on over the past 2 years. I actually want to lose 30. I have had a Weight Watchers Online account for like ever and I'm going to be using it. WW worked for me before - I'm confident it will help me develop a life plan again. I've never been big on the meetings - actually HATE them - so I'm going to count on you and my friends over in my FB group (Broken Record Fitness) to hold me accountable. I will post my points tracker and lbs lost/gained every Monday...if you don't see it. ASK ME! JUMP ON ME! Ya'll are going to be my meeting.

My fitness goals are to do at least 3 Triathlons this year (maybe 4 if I can squeeze it in)and a few 10k and/or 10milers. Here is what I have on tap so far:

  • 3 April - Cherry Blossom 10 Miler
  • 26 June - Philly Sprint Triathlon
  • 21 Aug - Iron Girl Columbia Triathlon
  • 30 Sept - 14 day Spain Bike Tour (really a vacation & not a race)
I'm looking at fitting in something in May, July, early Sept & late Oct/early Nov. I'll keep you posted.

It sure is gonna be quiet around here with Prince Jordan & Princess Charlee gone...Ummm...NOT. Princess Cara is STILL here to terrorize The FireMarshall and I.

It takes me 3-4 days to get all of our Christmas Decorations up...trust me that it will take me a couple of days to get them down. All the outside stuff is down and put away. The stuff on the inside is at least off the timers. Give me a minute.

I thought that the person I was talking about in this post would have recieved their clue...nope. I think I'm going to have to get them alone and give a gentle nudge because I know as fact that they would NOT want the general public to know. Damn shame.

The New Years Day party at The Tatum's was FANTASTIC!!! As always, Ila-gator is THE Hostess with the Mostest! It was fun to get away, even if just over night, to party with them. A great way to start 2011.

What's on your mind?

Just Random Stuff In My Head

A "friend" calls you up crying about nobody loves them & they have nothing to do for their birthday. You invite them over for movies, dinner, drinks. They show up two hours late w/o so much as a phone call or a by your leave and then talks on their cell phone while at your place the entire time.

That "friend" would be getting the stiff arm from this point on. Girl, Bye.

I recently witnessed "the disorder" first hand. All I can say is damn shame and no wonder.

I really wish people would just tell the truth or say nothing at all. Please don't try to justify your excuse or rude behavior when you see me later and when that same damn excuse you gave me should have applied in this situation. Uh Huh.

The silence is deafening. I hear you loud and clear.

I find it rather amusing when the Pot calls the Kettle Black.

Another famous saying from Momz - What's good for the goose, is good for the gander...so, if you can't handle the heat, stop playing with my lighter. You'll get burned.

Why are my shows not on tonight?

How is it that a kid dressed like a princess, pirate, doctor or even shrek akin to devil worship?Sigh. And...if a plastic sword promotes violence, doesn't a naught nun or pirate wench on a 1st grader promote ho'ish behavior?

Just asking.

My sister gets on my dag on nerves...but she is still family. Jeeze.

Run, Girl, Run. I'm so proud of my BFF - 1st 5k this Saturday. Bummed I'm not going to be there...but we are planning that big 10K? 10miler? Half?

Weather predicted Snow for her first run...I'm not laughing AT you, I'm laughing WITH you. Seriously. Why wouldn't it snow for your 1st ever race?

There are some questions I'm just NOT going to answer. I just don't have discussions with crazy or answer stoopit, irrelevant questions.

Yeah, I said I wasn't going to do another Triathlon. Yeah, I lied.

Mom & I think we have our Thanksgiving menu pretty much planned. We decided that "The Sparkling Side Car" as our signature cocktail will HAVE to be sampled IN ADVANCE.

It's just necessary to ensure quality.

If you don't vote tomorrow - THE STFU & GTFOOHWTBS! I don't want to hear your drivel, your complaints, your rants or your regurgitation of sound bites. Sit you ignant azz down somewhere and accept what you get in silence.

We're voting over here at True Blessings. TRUST.

Smoke Signals

The FireMarshall and I were up until about 1:00am Friday night talking & catching up with one of OUR Top Mafia (*side note - do you and your husband have any Top Mafia together/in common?) that is GOING THROUGH IT!!!!...like Through the Fire going through it. For all of the upheaval, drama, uncertainty, heartbreak and just uggggaaahhh! - he is still standing.

He sounded strong. He is going to survive...and what a testimonial he will have.

There was a lot of introspection and if hind sight were 20/20 yet he is moving past that woulda, coulda, shoulda and moving forward. It is a sight to behold.

Now, I don't know how the conversation steered toward what was going on in my head (yeah I do - The FireMarshall wanting to fix/solve/repair anything that he thinks might be amiss - and I appreciate the effort), but it did. Guys - I'm good. I'm not going to all of a sudden become some sullen, bitter woman and run off and do something irrational because I've harbored this feeling too long and it went all sinister. If that was the case, I've have gone Lizzy Borden a LOOOONNNG time ago. Seriously, I'm fine. Just because I express my thoughts out loud does not necessarily mean that I need y'all to immediately find a solution. Everything can't be fixed with a man-aid. Listening, empathy, head nodding, some positive affirmations - that part is good. The "Baby, let me tell you what you need to do" - Not so much.

I appreciate the concern, but I know my role. I play my position and for that I generally get to do whatever the hell I want, when I want. I'm good. Sometimes a Diva just wants more.

I'm a work in progress.

I really didn't know what else to say after all that solution finding-here's what you should do advice I was being given. I appreciated the thought from both of these men...I did...but I don't need fixing. A group hug, doh, that would be great. N. E. Way...I was left with my thoughts, yet felt a little bummed that I had nothing left to add to the conversation.

Until Saturday evening. I was straightening up my desk in my bedroom and I found a "Reflections & Meditations" sheet I had saved from a trip I took to Green Valley Resort & Spa in Nevada a few years back. (I am NOT a hoarder). It was entitled Smoke Signals:
A lone shipwreck survivor on an uninhabited island managed to build a rude hut in which he place all that he had saved. Every day he prayed to God for deliverance and anxiously scanned the horizon in hopes of seeing a passing ship.

One day while he was cooking breakfast in his little house, he saw on the horizon the outline of a ocean liner. Frantically he ran to the beach and jumped up and down excitedly, waving his arms and screaming at the top of his lungs. Alas, the ship just kept going and made no movement in his direction.

Dismayed and dejected, the man turned back to his hut and found that it had caught fire. Within the hour it burned to the ground; all that he had was gone. The man sat on the rock and cried -- surely this was the worst day of his life.

The next morning the ship arrived to rescue him. He was elated beyond word.
"How did you know I was here"? he asked the captain. "We saw your smoke signal." the captain answered. - Adapted from Walter A. Heiby

What is the lesson from this story? What is the message I want to leave with my friend?

Never judge an experience on face value alone. Sometimes what seems to be the worst thing that could happen turns out to be the best. A setback is really a setup (didn't we talk about that?) and behind every tragedy awaits a gift. If you are open to the gift, it will be revealed.

I'm open. I can see the horizon. How about you, my friend? From what I heard - I know you are.

I love you always....

HumpDay Randoms of a Traveling Diva

Getting back in the saddle of running again after the Triathlon is NO JOKE. I'm really not feeling it but I have the Navy 5miler on Sunday. I best get to trodding along. I have no doubt I can do it, I just won't be posting no lickity-spit time.

I designed the shirt for the Army 10 Miler for our team - The Usual Suspects. KEEEUUUTTTE.

I think I'm going to hop over the Michaels and get supplies to bedazzle hats for the team. Perhaps a craft activity for the MyGetTogether. Bring your hot glue gun and bedazzler if you have em.

I decided to read the sequel to "Waiting to Exhale" entitled "Getting to Happy". Well, I figured I actually read the 1st book instead of just going off the movie and then start the new one. Fine. I enjoyed Waiting to Exhale...it was much better than the movie (always is). However, when I picked up Getting to Happy, I got through the 1st couple of pages and threw the book down. Same damn sniveling bullshyat I hear and know a lot of women are doing in real life and I just wasn't down for reading about it.

What do I mean, you ask? I was so friggin annoyed with the age ole story of a woman that LIVES with a man for a year, KNOWS that he is scared to fly, thinks Den.n.y's is fine dinning and REFUSES to try anything else, only reads magazines, REFUSES to go on vacations or to movies or plays..blah, blah, blah...and then she is MAD ABOUT IT after 10 years of marriage, BLAMES HIM for her boring life, RESENTS HIM, doesn't COMMUNICATE with him about her needs and LONGS for a DIVORCE or has an AFFAIR.

BULLSHYT. You made that bed, now lay in it or woman up - BLAME YOUR DAMN SELF - and move on. I just hate that sniveling, blame everybody but yourself for your miserable lot in life crap.

HUMPH. But one of my Top Mafia - MsPattey - insisted that I keep reading so we can have a "bookclub" conversation about the book.

Anybody else reading it? Would you be interested in an online book club review/conversation about the shenanigans? Let me know.

N.E.WAY...

I've had the pretty much the same Top Mafia for 20+years. My ride&die, don't ask no questions, just bring a shovel & Lyme kinda gals. I have recently been blessed to be able to say that I have added a new best friend to the team. Do you know how hard that is? But we are just kindred spirits and I feel blessed to have found her. Tree. Apple. Seed.

...but I often have to say "Why ARE you that way?" She brings me joy.

I'm sorry, but I just can't help, consult with or turn over my Rolodex to everybody. Imma need you to stop. People ask too much.

I REALLY wish there was a dislike button on FB.

My new Scrubbing Bubbles Sonic Scrubber is the most FANTASTIC cleaning tool EVER!!!!!! Don't ever clean without it. There is no greater joy than getting well water mineral stains out of your ceramic anything. I'm in love!

I also love my new Sink Snake that I bought on a *gasp* infomercial. Drano wasn't working AT ALL. I slipped that sucker down the sink, twirled, and pulled out the HUGE hunk of *GAG* nastiness.

No more stopped up sink. I'm in love!...but it was really gross.

All I have to say is I am leaving the chapter in way better condition, with more money, more sponsors, more members than I found it in. I'm done!

BTW - not all married women who comment on a "relationship" post are jumping up & down, lording their "superior" married status over the single women. Seriously. In my case, I just state my opinion (just like a belly button - everybody has got one) and roll out. If the person reading the opinion reads some "extra" stuff into it - that's on THEM. Whatevz.

I think from now on I'll add...."and I've been married for 23 years, so there." to all of my comments. Just kidding - you know I can be snarky.

I do find amusing what some people call a "standard/non-negotiable" vs a "preference". SMH.

Do you, ladies! Do you...and good luck with that.

I hate when people say they "will try" to do something or be somewhere. Just say you won't or no, you can't. I am a graduate of the Yoda Jedi Master School of Thought...DO OR DO NOT, THERE IS NO TRY.

Learn to say NO. That try bull crap is some passive aggressive nonsense. IMHO. Yes or No. Do or Do Not. Simple.

The FireMarshall has some great things poppin off. We are ready.

I miss The Prince, Heir to the Empire. Letting go of my son is one of the hardest things I am (have ever) done.

Happy HumpDay. What random thoughts are you having today?

A Genius Saved My Life

You know that song Last Night A DJ Saved My Life? Well Today A Genius Saved My Life!

I had a MAJOR FAIL with my beloved iPhone4 yesterday - the dag on screen just went totally black - or at least that is what it appeared to be doing. I could hear it ring, I could hear the text messages coming in after the Triathlon, I could hear the pings from FB updates...what I couldn't do was see a damn thing. Thus I couldn't answer the phone, I couldn't do NADA.

I called Ap.p.le support and we reset, we restored, we did a factory reset to default settings...NOTHING. Well, I could faintly see the icons but that just wasn't going to do. So the support person on the phone told me to take it over to the store and they would swap it out for a new piece of hardware. Cool.

Well, not so cool. I showed up for my appointment with my A.p.p.le Genius right on time and he gave me the side eye -albeit in a very nice way - like tsk, tsk, tsk. Looks like there was some "damage" to my phone that IS NOT covered by the warranty. He must have seen the despair that came over my face. He must have seen my shoulders drop and my knees almost buckle...for I KNEW what that meant - I was gonna have to buy a full priced replacement. Lawd Jesus.

iCant.

My Genius listened to my sob story and told me to wait a minute while he checks with his manager on what to do. I don't know if he really went to talk to his manager or not, but about 5 minutes later, he came back out, beckoned me over to the counter and said, "I'm going to take care of you...this time."

I almost burst into tears right there. I almost grabbed him to plant a big fat smooch on him that would have probably earned me a FireMarshall over the eyeglasses stare down. However, since those counters are about as tall as I am, I couldn't quite get at him.

As my Genius worked on my new piece of hardware and got me set up, I gushed. I couldn't thank him enough and asked if I could take him to lunch for his kindness. He said he couldn't do that, but offered to walk me to the front of the store. As we walked up front, he told me he wasn't trying to be rude with his no, but if he accepted then it might cause problems with his co-workers and that he really appreciated my offer.

I asked for his card and he gave me his vitals. They don't work on commission at the A/pp;le store but if you need something, need help with your M.a.C stuff then go see Johnny at the Columbia Mall location.

I wrote a thank you note to him so that he would know that I appreciated his patience, kindness & generosity. I hope he does some IT work on the side so I can throw some opportunities his way. I wish there were more people out there that practiced random acts of kindness. The world would be a better place. I plan on paying that forward.

Today a Genius Saved My Life...not with a song...but with a new phone.

Be blessed, Johnny, for you blessed me today. Thank You!

Random Thoughts from the Kool-Aid Momma

I am in Ocean City acting as the Den Mother to 15 18year old kids that just graduated from high school. Senior Week will be the death of me.

This is my second year at this...and I know why no other parent wanted to do the duty. It wasn't cause of work or whatnot. They just didn't want to see and deal with all these teens.

Fortunately, I can be equally the Nice Lady & that Crazy MF'n Lady you don't want to fugg with.

I love overhearing the kids say, "Don't fugg wit Ms. Steptoe, ya know she was in the Army and shyt. She'll fugg you up."

Damn Skippy.

I have been contributing to the deliquency of minors though. So shoot me.

Youth is wasted on the young. WASTED.

It amazes me how many young kids, especially girls, don't have a mother that will speak da truff to their face. Why did I have "church" up in here with some random girls and they were eating it up and asking questions like it was 1st time knowledge.

SMH. Gather round, girls, gather round.

I'm falling in love with some of the young men that are here. Young, yet respectful. Yes, Ma'am. Please. Let me get that for you, Ms. Steptoe. The young men are doing all the cleaning and keeping things straight. I am duly impressed. Some of these boys have been raised right.

Or, they have the fear of Ms. Steptoe in 'em.

I had to "Kirk Out" (new term?) tonight when the PO-LICE showed up taking about keeping it down. I went da hell off. And I mean like Bl.air Wit.ch friggin crazy off. I told them that if they couldn't keep it down then the party would be turned into a friggin (and I used the real curse word) boot camp and I'd be body slammin mofo's like they was my personal PT byatch. I'd make the Ar.my S.tro.ng look like pussies.

Maaaaannnnn. They calmed down PDQ. The riff raff left.

BTW...I did 25 clicker board pushups to the shock and awe of my charges at the Ar.my St.ron.g traveling show, got me my t-shirt and then flew an Apache in the simulator. HUMPH. I still got it.

I may be short. I may be plump...but I'm FIT FINE...and modest. Something that can not be said of 98% of the teens here in OC and several of the women of a certain age hanging here this week.

I'm just gonna say NO to the women over 40/50 with cellulite & vericose veins. Just cause your are thin does NOT mean it is okay to wear that bikini and let us see your sagging skin, veins and cellulite. It's nasty. You ARE NOT cute. AT ALL.

I'm just saying.

IlaGator and the Queen Mother are joining me here tomorrow. Now this should be fun.

Just one of Those Days...

It's just been one of those days, maybe even a series of days where shyt was just happening and it wasn't all hunkie dorey.

My headset to my phone broke. Just up and died. While to some of you who think that a head set is rude and unnecessary, I think it is an absolute necessity in order to be hands free; in order to utilize my iPhone to the max without holding it up to my damn head; in order to hear the dag on thing ringing in the nether regions of my purse - cause I got kids and ish. Yep, I'm essential personnel and a broke headset just pissed me da hell off.

After 15 years of use, my treadmill just decided to up and fuggin die - right in the middle of speed work. It really does hurt when you go from 8mph to ZERO instantaneously after the moter decided to say fugg it and stop. Pretty sure I'm gonna have a mark. Mad about it.

I'm about sick and tired of some of my family - you know, those people considered biologics - gonna get all serious & huffy and start talking bout all the "things" they have done for "their" kids. GTFOOH!!! Just GTFOOH!!! Exactly what have you done? When? No, SHUT THE FUGG UP and cough up that $50 we asked for to spend at the prom. SAY NOTHING. Just dig in your damn wallet and fork it over before I find me a blow torch and a pair of pliers.

Sigh. Relax Relate Release.

I am mad about it that the coach wouldn't believe that I would send a check so the Prince could bring home his lax gear. I had to transfer 2 cnotes as a deposit so he could bring his gear home for the summer. (The Prince is hoping to coach some lax camps this summer). Ummm, I'm going to need a full ride coach. FULL RIDE.

I have dandelions instead of grass...Princess Cara keeps picking them and bringing them to me as a bouquet of flowers. Damn

The Royal Cat lost his friggin mind and decided to spray his essence all over my damn antique hope chest that my maternal grandmother gave me. That little fugger was just about to go to the damn pound, PDQ.

Today is trash day. Guess there were too many rib bones from the Graduation party this weekend. All of our trash cans were knocked over and the bags ripped asunder all over the gosh darn yard. I had to get a pair of gloves, pick it all up and put it back in the trash before they came to pick it up. Disgusting. I was mad about it.

And people wonder why women self medicate...my vice of choice: A Side Car & cigar. Happy Hour don't get here fast enough in the day.

Imagine That...

"Imagine If The Tea Party Was Black" - by Tim Wise

Let’s play a game, shall we?

The name of the game is called “Imagine.” The way it’s played is simple: we’ll envision recent happenings in the news, but then change them up a bit. Instead of envisioning white people as the main actors in the scenes we’ll conjure - the ones who are driving the action - we’ll envision black folks or other people of color instead. The object of the game is to imagine the public reaction to the events or incidents, if the main actors were of color, rather than white. Whoever gains the most insight into the workings of race in America, at the end of the game, wins.

So let’s begin.

Imagine that hundreds of black protesters were to descend upon Washington DC and Northern Virginia, just a few miles from the Capitol and White House, armed with AK-47s, assorted handguns, and ammunition. And imagine that some of these protesters —the black protesters — spoke of the need for political revolution, and possibly even armed conflict in the event that laws they didn’t like were enforced by the government? Would these protester — these black protesters with guns — be seen as brave defenders of the Second Amendment, or would they be viewed by most whites as a danger to the republic? What if they were Arab-Americans? Because, after all, that’s what happened recently when white gun enthusiasts descended upon the nation’s capital, arms in hand, and verbally announced their readiness to make war on the country’s political leaders if the need arose.

Imagine that white members of Congress, while walking to work, were surrounded by thousands of angry black people, one of whom proceeded to spit on one of those congressmen for not voting the way the black demonstrators desired. Would the protesters be seen as merely patriotic Americans voicing their opinions, or as an angry, potentially violent, and even insurrectionary mob? After all, this is what white Tea Party protesters did recently in Washington.

Imagine that a rap artist were to say, in reference to a white president: “He’s a piece of shit and I told him to suck on my machine gun.” Because that’s what rocker Ted Nugent said recently about President Obama.

Imagine that a prominent mainstream black political commentator had long employed an overt bigot as Executive Director of his organization, and that this bigot regularly participated in black separatist conferences, and once assaulted a white person while calling them by a racial slur. When that prominent black commentator and his sister — who also works for the organization — defended the bigot as a good guy who was misunderstood and “going through a tough time in his life” would anyone accept their excuse-making? Would that commentator still have a place on a mainstream network? Because that’s what happened in the real world, when Pat Buchanan employed as Executive Director of his group, America’s Cause, a blatant racist who did all these things, or at least their white equivalents: attending white separatist conferences and attacking a black woman while calling her the n-word.

Imagine that a black radio host were to suggest that the only way to get promoted in the administration of a white president is by “hating black people,” or that a prominent white person had only endorsed a white presidential candidate as an act of racial bonding, or blamed a white president for a fight on a school bus in which a black kid was jumped by two white kids, or said that he wouldn’t want to kill all conservatives, but rather, would like to leave just enough—“living fossils” as he called them—“so we will never forget what these people stood for.” After all, these are things that Rush Limbaugh has said, about Barack Obama’s administration, Colin Powell’s endorsement of Barack Obama, a fight on a school bus in Belleville, Illinois in which two black kids beat up a white kid, and about liberals, generally.

Imagine that a black pastor, formerly a member of the U.S. military, were to declare, as part of his opposition to a white president’s policies, that he was ready to “suit up, get my gun, go to Washington, and do what they trained me to do.” This is, after all, what Pastor Stan Craig said recently at a Tea Party rally in Greenville, South Carolina.

Imagine a black radio talk show host gleefully predicting a revolution by people of color if the government continues to be dominated by the rich white men who have been “destroying” the country, or if said radio personality were to call Christians or Jews non-humans, or say that when it came to conservatives, the best solution would be to “hang ‘em high.” And what would happen to any congressional representative who praised that commentator for “speaking common sense” and likened his hate talk to “American values?” After all, those are among the things said by radio host and best-selling author Michael Savage, predicting white revolution in the face of multiculturalism, or said by Savage about Muslims and liberals, respectively. And it was Congressman Culbertson, from Texas, who praised Savage in that way, despite his hateful rhetoric.

Imagine a black political commentator suggesting that the only thing the guy who flew his plane into the Austin, Texas IRS building did wrong was not blowing up Fox News instead. This is, after all, what Anne Coulter said about Tim McVeigh, when she noted that his only mistake was not blowing up the New York Times.

Imagine that a popular black liberal website posted comments about the daughter of a white president, calling her “typical redneck trash,” or a “whore” whose mother entertains her by “making monkey sounds.” After all that’s comparable to what conservatives posted about Malia Obama on freerepublic.com last year, when they referred to her as “ghetto trash.”

Imagine that black protesters at a large political rally were walking around with signs calling for the lynching of their congressional enemies. Because that’s what white conservatives did last year, in reference to Democratic party leaders in Congress.

In other words, imagine that even one-third of the anger and vitriol currently being hurled at President Obama, by folks who are almost exclusively white, were being aimed, instead, at a white president, by people of color. How many whites viewing the anger, the hatred, the contempt for that white president would then wax eloquent about free speech, and the glories of democracy? And how many would be calling for further crackdowns on thuggish behavior, and investigations into the radical agendas of those same people of color?

To ask any of these questions is to answer them. Protest is only seen as fundamentally American when those who have long had the luxury of seeing themselves as prototypically American engage in it. When the dangerous and dark “other” does so, however, it isn’t viewed as normal or natural, let alone patriotic. Which is why Rush Limbaugh could say, this past week, that the Tea Parties are the first time since the Civil War that ordinary, common Americans stood up for their rights: a statement that erases the normalcy and “American-ness” of blacks in the civil rights struggle, not to mention women in the fight for suffrage and equality, working people in the fight for better working conditions, and LGBT folks as they struggle to be treated as full and equal human beings.

And this, my friends, is what white privilege is all about. The ability to threaten others, to engage in violent and incendiary rhetoric without consequence, to be viewed as patriotic and normal no matter what you do, and never to be feared and despised as people of color would be, if they tried to get away with half the shit we do, on a daily basis.

Game Over.

Tim Wise is among the most prominent anti-racist writers and activists in the U.S. Wise has spoken in 48 states, on over 400 college campuses, and to community groups around the nation. All This in Two Days

I was on my way to a f.o.cu.s gr.ou.p event where I got paid a c-note to give my opinion on stuff last night when I got hit by a H.on.da from behind. It sounded probably worse than it was, but I pulled off 2.95 and jumped out the car. WHY ME! This poor soul of Hispanic decent, runs up to me with TOOLS in his hand, proceeds to pop my bumper back in place (it had only popped off the thingys that hold it on) and then clean the marks off. *BLINK* Then, in Spanish, he proceeds to beg me...while opening his wallet...to not call police or the insurance company. Well, after he "fixed" my car - I had no damage. His car, on the other hand was a little jacked. I tried to tell him that he might need insurance coverage more than me. He insisted (in broken English) that he would be okay and wanted to know how much (pulling bills out his wallet) to not call police/insurance.

I just didn't have the heart to take his money. I was good. The truck was good. I told him all was okay and proceeded to walk off (You know I took pics with my phone...just in case). This guy grabs my hand, shakes it, hugs me - "gracias, gracias" and runs back to his car. Go Figure.

The FireMarshall couldn't even tell I had been hit.

Why was I gonna tag the chick sitting next to me at the f.o.cus gr.oup? Byatch...contradict me ONE MO DAMN TIME. HUMPH.

Medical Update: I'm on my meds. I had my girl exam...the fibroid(s) may be back - was scheduled for a sonogram. I'm asymptomatic so WHATEVER. You can have the damn vessel. I'm done with it. Eye exam...SIGH. I need glasses.

I am fighting this aging thing kicking and screaming. FUGG YOU, Father Time. I refuse to go quietly.

I ran with TriBecca today. When she gets this breathing thing down, she's got 3 miles. I hope I didn't push her too hard. I really didn't want her to stop and we did run about 90% of the 2.25miles. She had the audacity to drop off the INSANITY Fit Test "to see how I would do" and then ask me how in the world her friend convinced her to do that workout. Ummmm....the SAME way you convinced me to do even an indoor Tri, the same way I still have the sign up for the DC Tri in my inbox, the SAME COTTON PICKIN way she go me doing swim & spins or runs with her. HUMPH.

I love me some Becca. She motivates me and I'm in pretty good shape. P.S. Thanks for the lookout, concern & advice on the medical stuff. Keep me honest. Keep me focused.

I leave to visit Ms.Pattey on Friday. Lawd Hab Murcey. She gonna give me dat watch.

I sit here with a cocktail, exhaling. It's all good.

HOW YOU DOIN?
